It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Sterling George Minard, age 95, who died August 10, 2015 in the Veteran's Unit, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

He was born in Liverpool, April 12, 1920, a son of Sadie Harlow and Ray Minard. They moved to Yarmouth when he was three years old, where he lived until he joined the army in 1940. He served with the Army Service Corps, spending four years in England. working for the Fingerprinting and Photographing and the Casualty Division, and with the Graves Commission when the war was over. After returning to Canada in late 1946 he worked at the Halifax Dockyards, for Batta Shoe Co.,and Eaton's Co., then spent many years as an accountant for the Federal Government, Department of Fisheries and the Department of Finance, ending his years of government service as accountant at Dorchester Penitentiary. Sterling was involved in many sports and spent twenty years as hockey coach in Memramcook, and with their softball league, receiving a medal from the government for his work with youth. One of his favourite hobbies was doing needlepoint and hooking rugs, which he learned to do while in hospital during the war.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter Carrie Moore, Truro; granddaughters, Suzanne Adshead and Jennifer Surrette of Truro, and grandson, Michael Sisco, New Minas; many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, four step-children, Catherine, Dartmouth, Robin and Nancy of Germany, and James of Sweden, plus many step-grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Emillie; brothers, Ray, Fred, Bob, Clyde and John; sisters, Louise, Dorothy and Betty Ann.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, August 13 at St. James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Alvin Westgate officiating.

Committal will be held 11 a.m., Friday, August 14 in Saint Thomas de Memramcook Parish Cemetery, Memramcook, NB.
