Dana Sawler

1980-2015

Dana Sawler
Dana Cedric Francis Sawler. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and son, Dana, age 35, of Martins River, on October 30th, 2015.

Dana is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Joann Sawler (Carroll), daughter, Grace; father, Douglas Sawler; sister, Wendy; grandmother, Rosalie Swinimer; mother-in-law, Ruth Carroll; five sisters-in-law and brother-in-law; the Carroll family; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Gail Swinimer.

He had a special bond with his uncle, Everett (Marilyn) and his "best buddies", Ryan, Dana H, and Grace.

Dana was a member of the Carpenters Union and was an excellent craftsman. He was deeply rooted and highly respected in the Martins River community through his dedication to the Martins River Volunteer Fire Department, where he held roles as Fleet Supervisor, Licensed Medical First Responder and Rescue Diver. Dana was a great many things to all of his family and community, always being present and willing to step up, lend a hand and be first through the door. He loved the outdoors in all aspects, with a special interest in hunting. He had a huge heart with enough room for anyone. Love you "Big Gorilla"... from "Little Monkey".

Visitation will be held 7-9pm, Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay. A funeral service will be held 2pm, Thursday, Nov 5th at St Mark’s Anglican Church, Martins Point, Rev Peter Rafuse officiating. Reception to follow at Martins River Volunteer Fire Department Hall, Martins River.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Martins River Volunteer Fire Department.
