Robert Wm. "Bob" Myra



Robert William (Bob) “Boom Boom” Myra of Martins Point, passed away suddenly on April 16, 2016 while on a fishing weekend in Yarmouth.

Born April 19, 1945 he was a son of the late Robert and Kate (Conrad) Myra.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lynn (Rafuse); sons, Darrin (Vanessa), Martin’s River; Jason (Krista), Bridgewater; Alex (Tia), Western Shore; daughters, Rhonda (Eddie), Chester Basin; Amanda (Tom), Yarmouth; four granddaughters, Emily, Victoria, Lily and Monica; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers, Calvin (Jean), Dartmouth; Archie, Western Shore.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Kate; sister-in-law, Pauline.

Bob was a Councillor for the Municipality of the District of Chester, representing District #5 since 1997. He was very devoted to his community and the people he represented, this was truly a passion for him. He worked with Standard Paving Maritime Limited in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick; was a former manager of A&W, Bridgewater and former co-owner of the Seabreeze Restaurant and Lounge, Western Shore. Robert was a life-time member of Royal Canadian Legion Harding Br. No. 144, Western Shore where he held numerous positions and was a driving force in the development of the ballfield, basketball court, children’s playground and the Memorial Room. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 61, Chester; Philae Shriners and St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Martins Point. Over the years, he coached softball and hockey. Hockey was a great passion for which all those who knew Bob can attest, he was a very devoted Montreal Canadiens fan. Robert had many passions, including hunting, fishing, golfing, watching local hockey, playing cards, visiting friends where he could spend countless hours socializing, age had no bearing on his friendship. He enjoyed going to his second home, his cottage in East Dalhousie, for days on end with his dogs, Brutis and Lucy. Robert was a very social and caring person, he was a great husband and Dad who was always there for his family, friends and community.

We will all miss his many jokes and stories, and even though we had heard them before, he could always make us smile as if we were hearing them for the first time. We will all miss him and remember his bright, cheerful smile.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the first responders in Yarmouth and his fishing friends who made his last days enjoyable.

Visiting hours will be held 7:00pm to 9:00pm, Friday, April 22, 2016 in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. A memorial service will be held 11:00am, Saturday, April 23, 2016 in St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Martins Point, Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Western Shore Legion Hall. Committal of ashes will be at a later date.
