Celia E. Mader



Celia Elizabeth Mader. Age 92, of Mahone Bay, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Mahone Nursing Home with her daughter by her side.

Born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on Feb 19,1924 she was a daughter of the late Charles and Annie Jolicoeur.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Mader-Petrie; sister-in-law, Alice Workman; nephews, Dennis Langille, Stephen and Alan Workman; niece, Teresa Workman and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; sister, Corinne; son-in-law, Ken; niece, Debbie; brothers-in-law, Raymond and Jim.

Celia spent her high school days growing up in Maine and graduated in the summer of 1942. She then moved to Nova Scotia with her parents, where she attended business school in Bridgewater and was employed by a number of businesses, Leamans Shoe Store, Hebb Motors, Sears and the Bridgewater Bulletin. She met her beloved husband of 26 years, Frank, while attending a card party and they married in 1958, making Mahone Bay their home. In the summer of 1963, they welcomed their daughter ,Nancy. Celia managed the local Sears outlet in the F.U. Mader Hardware Store, Mahone Bay, where she and Frank worked side by side in that space until their retirement in 1986. Celia was an active community member and she loved her home of Mahone Bay. She was a past member of the Women’s Institute of Canada, Mahone Bay Home and School, Swimming Pool Committee, Teachers Assistant, United Baptist Church, The Missionary Society, and a founding member of the Ladies Afternoon Prayer group. She enjoyed being her daughters biggest cheerleader, looking after all the neighbourhood cats, being the home the kids came to after school, her church, time at Blysteiner Lake and New Ross, dances, baking and trips to Maine. In the past few years she enjoyed bingo, painting and afternoon walks with Nancy, which always included her favourite ice cream.

A memorial service will be held 2p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the United Baptist Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Sherrolyn Riley officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
