Elizabeth C. "Betty" Wood

1919-2017

Elizabeth C. "Betty" Wood

WOOD, Elizabeth Catherine “Betty”. Only three weeks shy of 98 years of sharing her life and efforts with the people around her, Elizabeth Catherine Wood passed away on January 14, 2017 in Bridgewater after a brief illness.

And just three weeks ago she baked her usual 9 loaves of bread in her very own kitchen.

Elizabeth, best known as Betty, was born February 6,1919 in Sackville, NB and was the daughter of the late William Olsen Trenholm and Marion Carr (Hussey).

Betty lived for many years in Moncton, NB and Montreal, Quebec. In Montreal on Nov 8, 1958 she married fellow Maritimer, Earl P. Wood and settled in Sept Iles, Quebec where they owned and operated Wood's Electrical & Equipment Service Inc. Betty was proud to have shared in Earl's dream of crossing the Atlantic to Ireland on their wooden yacht, Arcadia, baking bread aboard and taking her turn at the helm. After settling in Mahone Bay in 1982, Betty began crafting the first of over 120 quilts, mittens and socks too numerous to count, generously passing them around to family and friends as well as donating time, talent and funds to the Lunenburg Hospital Auxillary, the new beginnings of the Mahone Bay Settler's Museum and United Baptist Church in Mahone Bay. Betty has been a devoted daughter, mother, aunt, nana and friend quick to share a good joke, meal, recipe, bun of bread, ginger snap, vegetables from her garden or greenhouse, flowers from her garden, a newly potted plant or shot of "raccoon juice"; always fun to be with up to and including her final days with us.

Betty is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gail Morgan Miner of Lr. Sackville NS, grandson Daniel Miner (Menolly) of Halifax, step-granddaughter Kristine Morgan O'Riley of Lr. Sackville NS, step-great-grandchildren Shae-Lynn, Angeleah, and Garrett O'Riley; former daughter-in-law Barbara Miner Devlin, granddaughter Kelly Miner Heydens (Steve Jenkins) of Stanhope, PEI, great-grandchildren Trevor (Tanya) and Kristopher Heydens; sister-in-law Verna Trenholm of Dartmouth NS, nieces Barbara (Harold) Merklinger and June (James) Crouse of Dartmouth and Lynne (Kevin) Ronneseth of Victoria BC. She is survived also by many good friends and neighbours including Mario McDonald and Diane Duchesneau of Sept-Iles, Dail and Marilyn Millett, Pauline Whynot and Stephen and Leslee Barry of Mahone Bay.

She was predeceased by her husband, Earl P. Wood in 2000 and her only son Lloyd Walter Miner in 2004, her former husband Gerald Lloyd Miner, and her brother Melvin Trenholm.

A funeral service will be held 2pm, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay, Rev. Adam Snook officiating.

Memorial donations requested to South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Betty has requested to have her ashes taken to Earl's side in Coles Island, NB, at a later date.

We would like to express our deep appreciation to the staff of South Shore Regional Hospital for their exceptional care of Betty.
