On the evening of Wednesday, February 15, 2017, Karen Kelly Wilson,
age 72, of Mahone Bay, peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by
love, with her daughter, Shannon and grand dog, Crosby, by her side.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Shannon Leal of Mahone Bay;
granddaughter, Alexa Leal of Georgetown, Ont.; sister, Janice Price
(Martin) of Brantford, Ont.; niece, Tara Price of Brantford, Ont. and
nephews, Mark Price of Hamilton, Ont. and Joey Price of Pembrook,
Ont.. Karen was predeceased by her brother, Gregory Kelly (Hamilton,
Ont.) and husband, Ernest Huckerby (Toronto, Ont.). Karen spent over
thirty years in the financial services industry, developing
administrative procedures and creating exceptional client experiences.
She helped launch and nurture many careers that continue to thrive to
this day. Her greatest career legacy however, is the incredible
family she created. A family in every way, made up of colleagues and
coworkers, that has continued to deepen and grow with love, with each
passing year. Karen had a deep, life long faith and believed in a
life of service. She contributed to every community of which she was
a member. In Nova Scotia, she volunteered with Breast Cancer Action
Nova Scotia, Pier 21, Scott Manor House, The Mahone Bay Food Bank and
was a member of the St. James Anglican Church Women in Mahone Bay. In
Ontario, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Palliative Care, the
Food Banks of Burlington and London and was an active member of St.
Vincent de Paul and the Catholic Women's League. One of Karen's most
favourite things was afternoon tea. She was always happy to share a
pot of tea whether with coworkers during an afternoon break, one on
one with a friend, during her many travels or dressing up with friends
for a tea party. Karen had a wonderful sense of humour and all who
knew her came to know it well. She touched hearts and lives
everywhere she went with her humble spirit and graceful soul. She
will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. Her daughter,
Shannon would like to extend her heartfelt gratitude for the
compassion and care of South Shore Palliative Care, the ALS Society of
NS and NB and the wonderful nurses of VON Lunenburg County. In lieu
of flowers, donations in Karen's name can be made to VON Lunenburg
County. Services for Karen will be held at St. James Anglican Church,
Mahone Bay, Father Chad McCharles officiating, on Friday, March 3,
2017 at 11:00am with reception to follow in the church hall.
