Charles R. "Sonny" Sawler

SAWLER, Charles “Sonny”, age 83 of Chester and formerly of Western Shore, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, July 10, 2017 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born, April 2, 1934 in Western Shore, he was a son of the late Roland and Vera (Eisenhauer) Sawler.

He worked at the Halifax Dockyard for 35 years, as well as being a Pastor at Bethel Mission, Martin’s Point and at Beech Hill Gospel Mission for many years. He loved the Lord whole-heartedly and the focus of his life was to lead others to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. His favourite question to everyone he met was “Can I tell you the way to heaven?”. He was an avid fisherman, a true collector and storyteller; a wonderful and caring Husband, Father and a devoted Grandfather to his grandsons, Adam and Nathan.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Peter) Graves, Blockhouse; grandsons, Adam (Shawna) Graves, Langdon, Alberta and Nathan Graves, Blockhouse; great-granddaughters Jada and Sierra, Langdon, Alberta; special nephew, Gary (Peggy) Sawler, Western Shore; many nieces, nephews and cousins; sisters-in-law, Rae Sawler, Gold River; Mona (Ozzie Stiles) Dennison, Bridgewater; Roberta (Raymond) Carver, Moncton; brothers-in-law, Dale (Darlene) Mosher, Martin’s Point; William Mosher, Moncton.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Mosher) Sawler and being the the last of his immediate family was also predeceased by sisters, Pearl (Lloyd) Gibson, Marie (Robert) Sawler, Barbara (Arthur) Mason; brothers, Marshall, Lindsay, Raymond and Paul.

Visitation will be held 7-9pm, Friday, July 14 at Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. A celebration of his life will be held 1pm, Saturday, July 15 at Aenon Baptist Church, Chester Basin, Rev Joe Green and Rev. Arthur Sawler Jr. officiating.

Family flowers only please. The family requests memorial donations be made to Western Shore Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
