Scott A. Robar

Scott A. Robar

Scott Angus Robar (1936-2017) passed away peacefully at Shoreham Village, Chester on July 14, 2017.

Scott was born in Chester Basin to Fred Robar and Lela (Smith) but was raised in Blockhouse by his beloved foster parents, Eunice and Elias Ernst.

After completing his education in the local one-room schoolhouse, Scott embarked upon a decades-long career as a salesman, traveling throughout Atlantic Canada for companies which included Barbour Foods, the Paper Mate division of Gillette and Pentel Canada. When he finally gave up life on the road, he worked for the Nothin’ Fancy Furniture Warehouse in Bridgewater, eventually retiring in 2003. In 1974, Scott returned to his family home in Blockhouse with his young family. Regardless of where his travels took him, his heart remained firmly rooted to the community. Happiest when he was being of service to others, he was a member of the Blockhouse Volunteer Fire Department, Charity Lodge #69, and the St. James Anglican Church council in Mahone Bay. As a young man he served for twelve years with the West Nova Scotia Regiment reserves. Always ready with a joke and a smile, “Scotty” will be remembered for his generosity of heart, kindness of spirit, and humbleness of character.

Survived by his wife Hazel; sons, David and Dwight (Marylou); daughter, Cheryl (Randy); his much loved grandchildren, Nicholas (Jean), Joshua, Fallon and Michaela; his foster sister, Flora Bell.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Lionel and William; his foster brother, Franklyn Veinotte; his sisters, Barbara Tanner and Elva Claridge; foster sisters, Edith Veinotte, Verlie Barry, Mary Meisner and Marjorie Joudrey.

A memorial service will be held 2pm, Wednesday, July 19th at St. James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay. Reception to follow immediately afterward in the Parish hall. A private family internment of ashes will take place at a later time.

Memorial donations may be made to the Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse; Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a local charity of your choice.
