Joseph H. Verge

Joseph H. Verge
Joseph Harold Verge, 63, Farmville, passed away February 19, 2019 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, with loving family by his side.

Born July 20, 1955, he was a son of the late Joseph and Blanche (MacLeod) Verge.

He was employed at the hardboard plant, East River (Louisiana Pacific) for 44 years, where he made many lasting friendships and was planning to retire this year to spend more time with family. Joe grew up on Long Island, NY, moving to Nova Scotia in his teens with parents and a sister.

He met and married his wife of 44 years, Judith (Judy Nauss). He is survived by and leaves to mourn, his wife and two daughters: Barbara MacKinnon (Jason), Halifax, and Margaret Capone (Nick), Toronto, two treasured grandchildren: Sara and Margaret MacKinnon, 2 sisters: Valerie Suuban (Arnold), NY, Leanora Fisher (Brian), Port Mouton; sisters-in-law, Diane Laking (David), Linda Parnall (Brian) and Gail Nauss; brotherin-law, Ronald Nauss; 5 nieces and 8 nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and grand-son, John.

Joe will be terribly missed by his loving family … and all who knew and loved him. He was generous and kind. He enjoyed his children, the opportunity to make visits to Toronto periodically and welcomed the opportunity to spoil his grandchildren. He was their “Pa” and they could do no wrong in his eyes! He looked forward to spending more time with them in his retirement. Joe loved history, science, music and was a fountain of information on so many topics. He took an interest in all things military, aircraft, current events, past events … everything! He loved movies (especially old movies) and sci-fi. He was the family “go-to” guy for so many things. There is a hole in the family that can never be re-filled.

Judy and girls wish to extend thanks to Pastor Adam Snook for his many trips to see Joe in hospital, to doctors and staff at the South Shore Regional Hospital and the NS Cancer Centre, as well as to Doctor Gowan, Palliative Care, and staff. Special thanks to niece, Lydia Brake, for all her assistance and encouragement and to so many family and friends who visited, called or wrote during Joe’s illness. Wonderful neighbours were there to assist in situations without even having to be asked. A special thanks also to Gail who was there to help with transportation and helping at home when help was needed (and even when it wasn’t). It was all so very much appreciated by Joe and the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mahone Funeral Home and there is no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 89 Edgewater St., Mahone Bay, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26th 2019.
