Daniel Christian "Dan" Blankenship
1923-2019
Many considered him The Oak Island Legend. A January 1965 issue of Readers Digest brought Dan to Oak Island and he knew he would be instrumental in discovering the treasure. In 1970, he moved full-time to Oak Island and dedicated over 50 years searching, drilling and digging, devoting the rest of his life and his own money to the Money Pit. Dan had a good contracting business in Florida, friends and a good reputation.
He “shucked” it all to come and make a gamble.
He is survived by his son, David (wife, Garnette); daughter, Linda; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jane; daughter, Janet Kirby and son-in-law, Billy Flowers.
He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and fans.
