It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Albert Cooper, 71 of Western Shore.

Born in Lunenburg on May 10th 1948, he was the son of the late Ronald and Marjorie (Selig) Cooper.

He was predeceased by his parents; his late wife of 48 years, Leona (Sawler) Cooper; brothers, John and Gary.

He is survived by his daughters, Cindy (Edwin), Candace and Charlene (Scott); brothers, Reggie, Gilbert (Tina), Bobby and Jerry (Gladie); sister, Joan (Chevey); grandchildren, Jeremy, Brittany, Josh (Sydney), Matthew (Hannah), Tamara, Natalie (Kyle), Natasha and Willie; great grandsons, Greyson and Ryder, along with many nieces and nephews.

George was a fisherman by trade and began fishing at the age of 13. He fished with many captains and finally made F.P. I. Riverport, his final destination. During the height of his career he was know as one of the fastest scallop shuckers in North America, competing in many competitions. Upon his retirement from fishing he volunteered his time with in his community. Being a volunteer firefighter with the W.S.D.V.F.D for approximately 40 years, a past member of the Legion #144 Harding Branch Western Shore, RCMP D.A.R.E. program and Citizens on Patrol. He also enjoyed playing bingo near and far, playing a good game of crib, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mahone Funeral Home. There will be no visitation by request and a graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m., Wednesday October 9th in the Western Shore Cemetery, Rev. James Haughn presiding.

Memorial donations in memory of George may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital, Canadian Red Cross or Diabetes Canada.
