Lloyd Archibald Conrad

1927-2020

Lloyd Archibald Conrad
CONRAD, Lloyd Archibald. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lloyd Archibald Conrad, age 92, of Clearland, announce his passing on June 16, 2020 in Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Born in Rose Bay, he was a son of the late Carl and Ethel Conrad. Lloyd was a merchant mariner and he spent many years on ships. His first trip was on a fishing schooner he took to Barbados. Then he kept going to sea on the Gloria May. During the war he joined a Norwegian ship where they all spoke Norwegian except him. He made many trips to Barbados, West Indies, Jamaica, Cuba and Nicaragua. He sailed for years as a boatswain on the Gypsum King and Gypsum Prince. After leaving the sea, he did carpentry. He built himself two homes in Clearland and was a precise finish carpenter. He retired from working with Aubrey Zinck and the boys. Lloyd was a self-taught guitar player. He will be remembered as a kind, soft spoken gentleman who believed in God. He deeply loved the sea and when he would go back in time his heart was always anchored in the ocean. Lloyd was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay.

Surviving is his wife, the former Valreta (Lutz) Langille; his children, Cathy (Ray) Dagley, Bridgewater; Corey (Kelly) Conrad, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Tammy (Steven) Nauss, Clearland; Julian Conrad, Lunenburg; brother, Harry Conrad, Middle Lahave.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Vera (Dorey); brother, Leo; sister, Beatrice Conrad. There will be no service at this time. The family would like to thank Dr. Jenkins, Dr. Millen, Trish, Kristina, Julie, Sabrina, Megan, Kevin and Cheryl for the kindness that you showed Lloyd while he was under your care. Thank you and God bless each of you. You are all very special people.
