Russell Dale "Pokey" Swinamer

1940-2020

Russell Dale "Pokey" Swinamer
SWINAMER, Russell D. "Pokey" - Western Shore/Mahone Bay

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce Dad’s passing on October 14, 2020 in Mahone Nursing Home.

Russell Dale Swinamer (Pokey), age 79, was born in Western Shore on December 23, 1940 to Russell Swinamer and Edna (Nean) Sawler Collicut.

At an early age Dad worked as a mechanic for Don Cornelius garage, then later worked in Halifax doing acoustic tile/drywall. A humble man with a quick wit, he loved to joke, he enjoyed a simple life enjoying hunting, fishing and playing cards and cribbage and loved Bingo. His love of camping, Bluegrass music and his Martin guitar led him to many festivals over the years where he made many lasting friendships.

He will be sadly missed by his son, Todd (Dollie) Swinamer, Lake Paul; grandson, Nelson and baby Nora, Lake George; daughter, Tina (David Selig) Swinamer, Western Shore; grandson, Anthony (Megan); great grandchildren, Chanel, Jace and Rylan of Chester; grandson, Adam (Patrick), Calgary. He will also be sadly missed by his special friend, Betty at Mahone Nursing Home. He is also survived by his nieces, Barbara, Christine and Leisa; nephew, Tony and many cousins.

He was predeceased by sister, Agnes Hirtle.

As per Dad’s wishes there will be no visitation or service, cremation has taken place. A private grave side burial will take place at a later date.

Thanks to Mahone Nursing Home for the wonderful care provided to our Dad.

Memorial donations are requested to be made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter or Diabetes Canada.

When my labor here is over and I lay my burdens down,
I'll sail away to Heaven for my saviour I have found.
I'll lay these burdens down at his feet and exchange them for a crown.
I'll leave this world of trouble and sorrow,
When the sun of my life goes down.
