Joan K. Foran

Joan Kathleen Foran, age 75, of Clearland, passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Ina (Graves) Amyoony and was predeceased by her brother, Joseph.

Joan was born and raised in Halifax and graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University but, soon after starting her family, fell in love with and moved to Mahone Bay. She managed several businesses over the years, but is best known for her commitment to promoting the area as a tourist destination both locally and abroad. Many visitors to the town were welcomed by her warm smile as they entered the Visitor Information Centre. Her love of Mahone Bay led her to publish a book about the history of the town. Her compassion also extended to the people of her community as Joan was actively involved in charity work and often opened her doors to people needing a helping hand. Music played an important part in Joan’s life. She was a wonderful pianist and passed her talent and love of music on to her children and grandchildren. Everything from classical guitar to loud rock and roll was often heard reverberating from an open window of the Foran household.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Walter; sons, Timothy (Patricia), Andrew (Ann), and Stephen (Julia); grandchildren, Benjamin and Samuel (Tim), Breagh and Connor (Andrew), and Elayna (Stephen) and by her brother, Peter.

Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Clearland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinsons Society or the Hillside Cemetery.
