Elizabeth Ernst

ERNST, Catherine Elizabeth. Passed away March 20, 2015 at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg in her 93rd year.

Born in Mahone Bay on January 1, 1922, daughter of Arthur and Emma (Lempke) Ernst.

She is survived by brother, Charlie (Rhoda), Waterloo, ON; son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Jean, Mahone Bay; grandsons, Todd and Trevor Ernst; four great-grandchildren, Easton, Brighton, Molly and Kelton of Brantford, ON; a number of nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by husband, Merrill; son, John; brothers, Paul, Frank, Frederick, Walter, David, Arthur Jr.; sisters, Ruth and Marie.

She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay where she held a number of offices, including Church Council, President Congregational former LCW, board member and treasurer former LCW Synodical unit. She was an active member of the church choir and together with her husband, Merrill, sang many solos and duets for various functions in Mahone Bay area. Singing and music were always a passion and they were members of the Mahone Bay Choral Club. Her working life included Secretary-Bookkeeper for Maritime Manufacturers &Contractors Ltd. and D & E Industries Ltd., Lunenburg. She was a very creative and a voracious reader. With the encouragement of Jane Kristenson, Mahone Bay, she wrote several books of original poems and personal memories.

Visitation will be 2-4 pm, Thursday, March 26 at Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral service will be held 2 pm, Friday, March 27 from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay, Pastor Adam Snook officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
