Marie Alva Jane Cleveland

We sadly announce that Marie passed peacefully on December 22, 2019 in Mahone Nursing Home surrounded by family.

Marie was born February 5, 1937 in Wolfville and was married to Neil Cleveland for 62 years. In that 62 years they had three children, Alva Oickle (Clyde Oickle), Kelsie Hirtle (Stewart Hirtle) and Jeffery Cleveland (Gail Cleveland) and lost an infant son, Dana. She also had six grandchildren, Todd, Bettina, Dana, Tasha, Justin and Logan; five great grandchildren, Ross, Hannah, Marissa, Lily and Cooper. Marie loved her grand children with all her heart. Her eyes lit up when they entered her room.

Marie worked at Mahone Nursing Home for 27 years. She liked to play curling and badminton and loved the Toronto Blue Jays. Her greatest wish was to see the Blue Jays play and Neil made sure her wish came true a few years ago.

Marie’s wishes were there will be no funeral or visitation, a PRIVATE FAMILY ONLY graveside service to be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday December 28, 2019 at Park Cemetery, Kinburn Street, Mahone Bay.

The family would like to send a heart-felt Thank You to the staff of Mahone Nursing Home for the care Marie received.


The family have requested that memorial donations be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Diabetes Canada.


Cremation has taken place under the care of Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay.
