Willard Elwood Keddy
Willard Elwood Keddy, age 96, formerly of Martin’s River, passed away October 1st 2021 at the Veteran’s Unit, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Willard was born on Silver Point Road, Martin’s River on March 10th 1925.

He was predeceased by his father, James "Harold" Keddy; mother, Carrie Keddy (Boehner); wife, Frances Keddy (Walsh); brother, Elwood Keddy and sister-in-law, Margaret; companion, Florence Lohnes.

He attended Martin’s River Public School and graduated from Port Jefferson High School, Port Jefferson, New York.

Willard volunteered and served in the United States Army as a Corporal in the Transportation Corps during WWII, battled and campaigned in Northern France and was also stationed in Germany and Austria.

After returning from overseas, he, his father, Harold, and brother, Elwood, started the business, Harold Keddy and Sons, General Building Contractors in New York State.

In 1958, Willard became involved in politics. In 1959 he became the youngest official elected as a Councilman in the town of Brookhaven. He was a Life Member of the Free Masonry; Life Member of the Shriners; Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater; Life Member of the Lions Clubs International; Honorary Member as a Volunteer Fireman; Vestry Member of St. Martin’s Anglican Church, Martin’s River.

Willard enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, and playing bingo, particularly if it involved a bus trip to a U.S. destination. He will be remembered for his quick intellect, wit, generosity, but most of all, his wonderful sense of humour which remained with him until the very end.

A graveside committal service will be held at St. Martin’s Cemetery by invitation only.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Martin’s Cemetery Fund or Martin’s River Volunteer Fire Department.
