He joined the Canadian Armed Forces after graduating from high school. He retired after 25 years of service as a Radio Operator/ Communication Specialist.
He married Ruth, the love of his life, in 1963 and they immediately moved to Marville France RCAF base. They then moved to Ramstein 4 ATAF base. In 1968 he was transferred to CFB Trenton, Ontario where they started their family. Walter had many jobs after he retired from the Canadian Armed Forces as he was not someone to sit idle. He spent a short time working in the kitchen of National Fish Products Plant. He was the manager at DAFRON paddle plant for a year. He then worked on the Zapata Scotian oil rig as a Radio operator for 6 years. He drove for Sure Courier for 14 years until he completely retired at 63 to care for his wife.
He started every day with his 2 cups of coffee and his newspaper which he read from front to back. He loved to work in the woods on his land, and he enjoyed his small farm that he had for many years. He loved telling his children and grandchildren stories about his and Ruth’s adventure’s they had overseas.
We will all miss his stories, they were always filled with facts and knowledge and heartfelt details. He will be missed beyond what any words can express.
