Eugenie Sophia "Jean" Hatt

HATT, Eugenie Sophia “Jean”. Age 90, of Western Shore, passed away at home on June 6th 2022.

Born on June 29 1931, in Chester Basin, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Stella (Oxner) Backman.

Jean was a graduate of Maritime Business College in Halifax. She went on to work at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Chester and later managed a family owned general store in Western Shore. Jean had a strong commitment to her church and community. Together with her husband, Fenton, they supported many local charities throughout the years. She will be remembered for hosting many family gatherings at their cottage in Martin's River. Wonderful memories that she helped to create for all of us...her pies, squares, cakes and excellent recipes were always a hit. Everyone was welcome, the more the merrier. In later years she looked forward to travelling with friends and family throughout the Maritime Provinces. Many trips and memories were made cruising on the highway of life.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 68 years, Fenton and her son, Jeffery. She is also survived by her sisters, Amy Crawley, Bedford and Vivian Mosher, Chester Basin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant sister, Lena; sister, Frances and brothers, Moyle, Murray, Philip, and Benny Backman.

There will be a graveside service for family and friends to be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11th 2022 at Western Shore Cemetery.
