Gavin Charles Himmelman

1949-2022

Gavin Charles Himmelman
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gavin on Saturday, June 11th 2022, at home; a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Gavin was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia May 25th 1949.

He was predeceased by his father, Charles and mother, Grace (Smith).

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Alma-Anne (Zwicker); children, Angela, Matthew (Heather), and Andrea (Rob) and the apples of his eyes, grandchildren, Charlie and Grace.

Gavin had a head for financials and spent much of his working career as Controller helping to grow the Oak Island Inn into the Oak Island Resort, Spa, and Convention Centre. He was dedicated to his work, but still always made time for his family. He was incredibly supportive and encouraging. He never missed a chance to make his kids feel special and faithfully attended every school concert, soccer game, track and field event, band performance, or anything else we had going on.

He loved animals and the outdoors and was always up for a road trip or adventure. He welcomed the opportunity to pass on his knowledge and love of nature, with countless youth, working his way through the Scouting system as a leader. Gavin had a lifelong love of learning; Family vacations were never complete without the obligatory visit to museum, national historic site, or simply reading every interpretive plaque on a hiking trail.

The past few weeks have been difficult, the family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all of the staff on the Cardiac unit at the Halifax Infirmary, the ICU unit at the South Shore Regional Hospital, EHS & first responders, and the Martin’s River Volunteer Fire Department, for helping grant us a little more time and laughs with Gavin.

A funeral service will be held at AEnon Baptist Church, Chester Basin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18th 2022 with reception to follow. Masks will be required.

There will be a private family burial at the Western Shore Baptist Cemetery.
