John Douglas Baker
Born on Herman’s Island on August 3, 1934, he was the youngest son of the late Lowell and Muriel (Westhaver) Baker.
He was a sheet metal worker who installed and worked at furnaces and heating systems for about 40 years. In his younger years he made small furniture and some kitchen cabinets. He also built a few pleasure boats along the way. Dad was a hard worker who loved working with his hands, building things, working in his garden, etc.. He also helped out at different times in the church and with the Church Boys League. For many years Dad was the main caretaker of the Martin’s Brook Cemetery, making sure it was always in good condition. He enjoyed attending music jams, card games and community suppers in the area, and being around family and friends. Dad was a gentle person who loved and cared for his family very much.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Garnice, and a son, Kerry, in infancy, as well as brothers, Lawson, Gordon, Ronald and Eugene; sisters, Gwen, Madelyn, Isabelle, Shirley and Kathleen.
