Opal K. E. Newell

It's with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing on August 26, 2022 of our dearest mother after her courageous battle with cancer. She past at home with her daughters by her side.

Opal K.E. Newell, age 69, born November 8, 1952 was the daughter of the late Frederick Raymond and Hilda Gladys Hiltz of Martin's River.

Opal was predeceased by her parents, also her loving husband Robert (Bobby), brother-in-laws, John Smith, Roy and Allen Newell.

Opal is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Glenn Rafuse), Kelly (Leon Veinotte); her brothers, Freddie (Caroline) Hiltz and Laurie (Cheryl) Hiltz, also her brother and sister-in-laws, Eric (Thelma) Newell, Joan (Gordon) Wheatherby along with many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Opal is also leaving behind Chad Tanner (Sherri Carriere) whom she dearly loved as a son and Spencer Tanner who she loved as a grandson. Also her cat Willow.

A special thank you to her nephew, Peter who was there for all of us from the very beginning of her journey. We are very grateful for all your loving support and help, also like to thank Lynn Wright, Laurie Clyke, Christine Hatt and Patti MacKenzie for their love and special friendship. We like to thank Mom's neighbors and friends for all the love and support throughout her journey.

Our Mom loved nature, boating, fishing, animals, playing cards, knitting, cross stitch, diamond art paintings and was an avid bingo player. She was also a member of the Martin's River Fire Auxiliary for many years. Our Mom had numerous jobs as a waitress also worked at the Irving and the Legion in Mahone Bay.

On behalf of the Newell-Hiltz families we would like to express our utmost gratitude to Dr. Snow, Dr. Damba and their teams also the oncology team at the South Shore Regional Hospital. We would like to thank Dr. Jenkins, the Palliative Care team and the VON for all the care throughout Mom's journey. Also we would like to thank the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 49 for the use of the walker and wheelchair, thank you to Lloyd Westhaver for everything and for being such a wonderful friend, Miss Daisy enjoyed all her adventures because of this.

As per Opals request there will be a family graveside service only.

Memorial Donations maybe made to the VON, Lunenburg County Branch; The Rose Fund; Martin's River Fire Department or a charity of choice.
