It is with profound sadness that the family announce the passing of Justin David “Sonny” Myra of Gold River, at the age 88, on January 6, 2023 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Justin was born on November 11,1934 in Gold River to the late Carmon Myra and Eva (Kaizer) Myra.

Justin worked for Farey Aviation for many years and also worked for Guilford’s, Maritime Sound and Hiltz Drywall.

On July 26, 1968, Justin married Maureen (Adams) Myra. They celebrated 54 years together. They first welcomed daughter, Darcie and then son, Kelly. Justin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Justin enjoyed sports. He loved watching his children, and later on, his grandchildren play baseball and hockey.

Justin was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting trips with his son and brothers. A rabbit stew back at the camp in Beech Hill was a yearly tradition.

Justin loved to drive and he and Maureen took many vacations to Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In later years he and Maureen enjoyed many drives together looking for deer and enjoying Tim Horton’s coffee.

Justin is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter, Darcie (Ivan); son, Kelly (April); four grandchildren, Tyler, Brady, Madden and Gracie; many nieces and nephews.

Justin was predeceased by his parents, Carmon and Eva Myra; sister, Marion; brothers, Carmon and Aubrey.

The family would like to thank Lynn Key and the staff of Heart to Heart, the Victorian Order of Nurses and the doctors, nurses and staff of South Shore Regional Hospital for the care they provided to Justin.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 11th 2023 at Western Shore Cemetery, Western Shore, Rev. Shirley Carras officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Western Shore.

Memorial donations are requested to be made to Grace Anglican Church, Chester Basin or a charity of your choice.
