Herbert "Herb" Farmer

1948-2023

Herbert "Herb" Farmer

On Wednesday, January 4th, Herb left us to be with his much loved mother, Lillian (Olmstead) and father, Lloyd. He was born in Liverpool on March 25, 1948. As a boy he loved to go swimming, skating and playing ball with his friends. Herbs mother was busy at home, while his dad owned different businesses in Liverpool. In 1963 the Farmer family moved to Blockhouse and rented what is now Printers Corner while his parents looked for a home to purchase,. They settled on Northwest Road. Herb attended schools in Liverpool, Mahone Bay High and Centre Consolidated,. He wasn’t really the academic kind, he was a hands on kind of guy. Early years he went out to sea fishing, he joined the army and spent six months in Cypress. He worked at International Nickel (now Vale) for 30 years retiring in 2001, Over the years he was a back yard mechanic working with his friend Glenn and helping his friend Doug in his body shop. In 2001 Herb and his wife moved back home to Nova Scotia.

Mourning him is Anne, his wife of 52 years. They were married April 1, 1970. Also are his sons, Herb Jr. (Lise), Sudbury, Ontario; Kevin (Stacey), Newburn and Dan (Diane), Gatineau, Quebec. Siblings, Marlene (Bob), Bridgewater; Lloyd (Charlotte), Bridgewater and David (Rhoda), Fauxburg. Also surviving is his father-in-law, Bud Lantz. Herb had 9 grandchildren; Talon (Chelsea), Sudbury; Dakin (Amber), Sudbury; Kaedan, Gatineau; Emery (Sophie), Sudbury; Laiken (Jason) Hanmer, Jessica (Cody), Nineveh; Emilie, Gatineau; Brett (Kelsie), Chelmsford; Kyler (Natalie), Sudbury. Herb loved his many nieces and nephews. Herb is leaving behind many good and special friends.

Herb would drive for hours with two special friends, George and Paul (both deceased), never knowing where the roads would take them. In the last years he loved to go fishing with his best friend, Charles. His two favourite sayings were “you can’t fix stupid” and “it is what it is”. Herb was a quiet, gentle, caring soul, if Herb was your friend he was a true friend. Herb was predeceased by his mother, Lillian and father, Lloyd, baby sister, Ethel, sister in law, Ferne, brother in law, David, mother in law, Kathleen.

A celebration of Herbs life will be at a later date. Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital, South Shore Palliative Care or SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.

Although it was a struggle for Herb and his family we would like to thank Dr. Anne Chaisson, she is one of Gods angels, and Louise from Palliative Care. The nurses that were there for Herb with such care, we are sure they are all angels. We were taken care of from the housekeeping staff (Little Miss P.E.I.) and the food services. Thank you to our new friend, Stephen. Thank you for the food donations, cards, gifts and visits. Thank you to Pastor Doug for your kindness. A special thank you to Mahone Funeral Home, Bob, thank you for helping us through our sadness.
