Shirley Jean Saulnier

1956-2023

Shirley Jean Saulnier, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She left this world suddenly on January 11, 2023, at age 66.

She was born to Floyd and Jean (Wilson) Spidle on July 2, 1956. She graduated from Mahone Bay Consolidated High School and NSCC.

Shirley worked for many years as a cook at Mahone Bay Nursing Home and the Lunenburg County Correctional Centre in Centre.

On January 3, 2003 Shirley married Piers Greenwood and recently celebrated 20 years of marriage together. They lived for many years in Purleigh, England operating New Hall Vineyard, her husband’s family vineyard and winery. They moved back to Nova Scotia in 2016, making Blockhouse their home.

Shirley loved cooking, baking, and crafting. She started Farmhouse Kitchens and made and sold homemade jams, jellies, chutney and many lovely desserts. Preparing for family gatherings was an Inspired event. Her love of crafting allowed her to participate in many farmers markets and craft shows throughout the province.

She loved traveling with her amazing husband, Piers Greenwood. They traveled the globe together and enjoyed two around the world cruises, which allowed them to experience many places and cultures and meet lifelong friends. One of her favourite destinations was Norway, which they returned to numerous times.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Piers; daughter, Annette Saulnier; son, Adam Saulnier (Nicole); granddaughter, Isabella Saulnier; mother, Jean Spidle; mother-in-law, Sheilah Greenwood; sister, Darlene Boliver; stepchildren, Michael, Lisa and Chris; several nieces, sister-in-law’s, step grandchildren, aunts and uncle.

Shirley was predeceased by her father, Floyd Spidle; fraternal and paternal grandparents; father-in-law, William Greenwood; brother-in-law, Stephen Boliver and her first husband, Ralph Saulnier.

Shirley was a very caring person and did what she could to help out everyone she met. She was dearly loved and will be forever missed by her husband, Piers, her children, her granddaughter and her extended family.

Cremation has taken place and there are no funeral arrangements at this time. A future celebration of life may be scheduled for a later date.
