Robert Alan Rafuse

1965-2023

Robert Alan Rafuse
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robert at home on July 2nd 2023 at the age of 58.

Born on June 2nd 1965, he was a son of Mildred and Maynard Rafuse of Martin’s River.

Besides his parents, Robert is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lynette and their daughter, Emily; his brothers, Kenneth and Dale (Cathy); nephews, Alex and Gregory.

Robert started his work life as a carpenter but later became a “jack of all trades” on Rafuse Island as an island caretaker for the past 24 years. Robert truly thrived when he was on the ocean, whether he’d be boating, diving, fishing, or tending to his job.

Robert had a knack for the guitar and loved to play and sing, even by himself, especially if it was around a fire. He had no shortage of friends and was always more than happy to simply have a conversation and a beer. The lucky ones would get a visit filled with laughter and be left with some of his homemade smoked fish.

If you knew Robert there’s a good chance you knew Abby, who was his canine sidekick, often tagging along on his daily adventures for almost 15 years. Our hearts broke when Abby passed in 2019. Even though she was a family dog, there was no denial that Robert was truly “her person” and she was his heart dog.

As Robert always wished, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered at sea and on Rafuse Island. There will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart And Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Martin’s River Volunteer Fire Department.

Lynette and Emily wish to thank their friends, neighbours, family and first responders for their support during this difficult time
