January 24, 1936 - January 12, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Maloney announce her passing, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Halifax, NS, she was the daughter of the late Harold Sidney and Rita (Brown) Donovan.

In 1955 at the age of 19 she married the love of her life and soulmate, John Maloney. They enjoyed many trips to Florida but the highlight for Mom was the trip to Europe in 1985 with the Browne’s. Mom worked in the insurance industry for over 20 years as an insurance agent for AJ Haliburton and then Dale & Co. Mom was a member of the Armdale Yacht Club as well as the Waegwoltic Boat Club and enjoyed her summers between trips out on their cabin cruiser “Lealyn” and lazing around the Lido pool at the Waeg. When Mom was in her 50’s she attended Saint Mary’s University to expand her knowledge. It was a very exciting time for her. Growing up there was always music in our house, from the piano to the ukulele to classical guitar, Mom loved her musical instruments. Mom was a very talented artist and delved into acrylics, oil, water colours and pencil sketching. Mom made friends wherever she went, had a very diverse circle of friends and loved them all. She had a love for all her pets but especially her dogs Scuffer, Rags and little Katie and feline Kit Kat. In 2014 Mom left her home in Halifax and moved to Mahone Bay to be close to daughter Leah and son-in-law Mike. She met many wonderful people here and enjoyed her weekly jaunts to the Adult Day Program at the VON in Lunenburg. One of the highlights of Mom’s life was when her only grandson Adam was born in 1992. He was the “apple of her eye”, and we all as a family spent many hours on the baseball field and in the hockey arena. 20 years later she was blessed with great-granddaughter Marlee, and they got to spend a lot of time together when Marlee would come to visit us in Mahone Bay.

Evelyn is survived by her only daughter Leah Maloney and son-in-law Mike Brown, Mahone Bay; grandson Adam Klinger, Dartmouth; great granddaughter Marlee.

She was pre-deceased by her husband and soulmate John Maloney, father Harold Sidney Donovan, mother Marguerite (Rita) nee Brown, beloved sister Marion Avis Donovan.

Evelyn will be cremated and a visitation will take place on Saturday, January 20, from 2-4pm at Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St, Mahone Bay.

Burial will take place at a later date at the Gates of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Lower Sackville where Mom will be laid to rest with her beloved John, mother Rita and sister Marion.

Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the South Shore Regional Hospital.
