George Robertson

1937-2024

George Robertson

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of George Robertson, of Western Shore, Nova Scotia, on February 26, 2024. After a short battle with cancer, George passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love. Born on March 13, 1937, in Clive, Alberta, to Annie and Peter Robertson, George was the youngest of five boys, joining David, John, Peter, and Syd in a tiny rural household.

George leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication as a devoted husband to Diane, his wife of 55 years, and as a loving father to his sons, Todd (Cecile) and John (Jill). He was a proud grandfather to Marissa, Vaughan, Jacob, Tyler, and Gavin, who will miss his wisdom and warmth.

A respected educator, George spent most of his career as a Guidance Counsellor at Sackville High School in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. He was a pillar in the school community, guiding countless students with his wisdom and compassion.

An avid runner, George's passion led him to complete multiple marathons, an achievement that inspired many. He extended this passion to coaching and nurturing young athletes as the coach of the cross-country team at Sackville High.

George was deeply involved in his church communities, first at Knox United in Lower Sackville and later at Trinity United in Mahone Bay. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he served with dedication and grace.

For the past 20 years, George and Diane made their home in Western Shore, Nova Scotia. Here, George enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of golf, regularly joining friends at Osprey Ridge Golf Club. In golf's off-season, he stayed active by walking the trails around Western Shore and the Oak Island Inn, and for a time, he enjoyed carving up the ice during open ice time in Bridgewater.

In his later years, George found joy in quieter pursuits, spending time reading, sketching, completing puzzles, and savouring a coffee with the morning paper. His artistic talent and intellectual curiosity remained vibrant throughout his life.

George was known for his ability to listen and offer advice with a unique blend of wisdom and humour. He touched the lives of many with his kind-heartedness and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A service to celebrate George's life will be held at the Western Shore Cemetery, on March 13 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Mahone Bay, a cause close to George's heart.

George's journey through life was marked by kindness, dedication, and a love for his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
