Robert Howard McVay
Bob passed peacefully at Victoria General Hospital, Halifax May 26, 2025 after a brief illness.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, George William McVay (d: 1972) and Marion Elizabeth McVay (d: 1998). He is survived by his sister, Virginia Margaret Parker and his brother, David Paul McVay. He was predeceased by his brother, George William McVay Jr (d: 1990).

When we were children, there was a stump to be removed in the backyard. Oldest brother Bill said “I chickee the big shovel”, youngest brother David said “I chickee the small shovel” and Bob said “I chickee the hammock!” Bob was the easy-going sibling throughout his life. He made friends easily and stayed in touch initially as an avid Cber and later through social media.

Like most McVay’s, he enjoyed sailing. He could be seen helming his prized “Mahonne” on the waters of Mahone Bay. He loved music with his deep bass voice the foundation of church choirs and Barbershop Quartets. As Santa Claus at Bill’s Store, Bob mesmerized a generation of Mahone Bay children.

He enjoyed searching for treasures though flea markets and he had a knack for giving a second life to gadgets.

Bob was “Captain Highligner” personified during his career working for National Sea Products.

Bob has sailed on to new adventures but will always be remembered fondly by friends and family alike.

A GRAVESIDE SERVICE FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE HELD 2:00PM, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11TH 2025, AT BAYVIEW CEMETERY, EDGEWATER STREET, MAHONE BAY (NEXT TO THE TOURIST BUREAU).

Memorial donations in Bob’s memory may be made to your charity of choice.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mahone Funeral Home, P.O. Box 200, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay, NS B0J 2E0 (902-624-8241). Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.mahonefuneral.ca
