Charlotte E. Corkum SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Born in Chester, Mom was predeceased by her loving husband, D. Boyd (Bud) Corkum. She leaves behind 3 girls, Karen (Arthur) Armstrong, Denise (Gary) Graves and Debbie (Danny) Bond and 6 grandchildren, Julia, Randy, Nicole, Chris, Jennifer and Stephen and 11 great grandchildren. Mom is also survived by sisters, Lynne Baroni and Anne Veinot, and predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth Brown, Janet Freda and Elaine Ettinger. Mom certainly enjoyed having all her family close by and getting updates on her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was so very proud of all of them.
Mom was a dedicated volunteer and community leader. She was always ready and prepared to help where ever and whoever she could. Mom and her beloved van travelled the community sharing her fresh made rolls, bread, soups and other goodies to neighbors and to those afar.
Volunteering was Mom’s passion. Mom was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent for many years, long time Church guild member and president, and a Licensed Lay Minister for the Parish of St. Martin’s. Mom enjoyed her role assisting as Eucharistic Minister in the community and offering companionship for those sick and house bound. Mom coordinated the fall kohl cannon supper which always was well attended and a great fundraiser for the church.
Mom was a member of the ladies auxiliary at the Royal Canadian Legion Everett Branch #88 and recently received her 50yr pin. She was always happy to help in the kitchen for various legion functions and events.
Mom enjoyed her volunteer time at Shoreham Village, helping in the recreation department, delivering sermons and devotions and time spent sitting in the palliative care unit.
Mom spent many years as captain and canvasser for the Heart and Stroke and Cancer Society making sure she got to every house and returning if needed to ensure she collected as much as possible for 2 very important causes.
Many people will remember Mom as a Brownie leader and recall skits and crafts they did together. This really only touches on all that Mom did – the list is long! Mom’s church recognized her extensive work in the community with a nomination and then recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Mom enjoyed all seasons from cross country skiing, skating and snowmobiling in the winter to gardening and farming strawberries and raspberries spring and summer as Dad’s “right hand woman”, driving trucks and tractors and anything in between – Mom could always do it!
We will miss Mom as we each had our time of day to call her and see what her day entailed and catch up on what our families were doing, Sunday afternoon get togethers at Mom’s, the meeting place, will be so missed.
We are very grateful to Lynn Key and her staff at Heart to Heart Chester Basin for their care and compassion to Mom in her last week.
As per Mom’s wishes funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mahone Bay Funeral Home.
