It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Elizabeth (Ernst) Wentzell on June 10, 2026, just days before her 85th birthday.

Born on June 16, 1941, Doreen was the beloved daughter of the late Gordon and Mildred “Millie” (Whynot) Ernst. She spent her entire life on the hill in Oakland, a place she loved dearly and where she built a lifetime of memories and community connections.

Doreen was predeceased by her devoted husband, Paul Wentzell, with whom she shared many happy years.

A loyal member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay. Doreen’s faith was an important part of her life. She found joy in simple pleasures and in the home she cherished. She was known for her love of gardening, taking great pride in her vegetable and flower gardens. Christmas was her favourite season, and she delighted in its traditions, decorations, and the opportunity it provided to connect with family and friends. Doreen also had a special affection for cats, whose companionship brought her much happiness throughout the years.

Doreen was a caring friend and neighbour who enjoyed keeping in touch with the happenings in the community and she always seemed to know what was going on around town. Her steadfast presence in the Mahone Bay community will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
