Helen Rosamond "Roddy" Barker
1911-2006
Helen Rosamond "Roddy" Barker - died peacefully on October
31, 2006 at home in Mader’s Cove with her family at her side.
Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island in 1911, she was the daughter
of the late Reginald and Bee Richardson.
In the 1930's Roddy moved to Halifax where she led a busy and active life and was able to pursue her love of music by becoming a member of the violin section of the Maritime Conservatory Orchestra. She worked for National Sea Products for more than twenty years. Upon her retirement, she moved with her husband, Jack, to Mader’s Cove and became involved with community life there, endearing herself to all. Roddy was a member of the Eastern Star and the IODE. She gardened extensively and enjoyed learning to paint. Her family, friends and home were very special to her.
She is survived by her husband, John (Jack) and her daughter Sandra (Edward) Jordan, Lunenburg, and son Reginald (Nancy) MacMillan, Bridgewater, daughter Aileen (Ron) Lewis, Mahone Bay, daughter-in-law Pamela Barker, Herman’s Island; grandchildren David (Geraldine) Jordan, Peter (Tricia) Jordan, Heather MacMillan (Marcel Hardy), Kathy (Ian) Spence, Susan (Earl) Curran, Gwyneth Barker, Jefferson (Tracy) Hall, Jennifer Hall, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Vernon MacMillan (Mac), sister Violet Reck, son John Barker and great grandchild Joshua Jordan.
Special thanks are given to her caregivers over the course of the last several years, Donna, Katie, Gail, Margaret, Agnes and Chris, for their loving care.
A funeral service will be held in St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, on Monday, November 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Ian Wissler officiating. Family flowers only.
