Clarence "Clary" G. Dauphinee
DAUPHINEE, Clarence “Clary” Glenwood, 74, of Clearland, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2010 at South Shore Regional Hospital (SSRH), Bridgewater with his companion Elmore Veinotte by his side. Born on July 19, 1935 in Halifax, he was the son of the late Winnifred “Winnie” Oxtoby (Dauphinee). He was also predeceased by her husband Johnny (Leslie) Oxtoby and mother-in-law Marion Veinotte. He is survived by his companion Elmore Veinotte, Clearland and his son Allan Dauphinee, Mill Cove. He also leaves behind Elmore’s family that he considered his own: sons, Ivan Dahl Jr. of Back Center (his sons Ryan and Evan), Darren Dahl of Bridgewater (wife Kelly, daughters Meikan and Madison) and daughter, Michelle Wile of First South (fiancé Trevor and her daughter Karisten and son Chandler). Daughters, Cindy Coolen , Halifax and Cheryl Harnish, The Lodge; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He will also be fondly remembered by Andy Veinotte, Mahone Bay. Clary spent the majority of his life in the floor covering industry, primarily as a salesman. In his younger years he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a proud member of Clark Lodge No. 61, Chester Golf Club and St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay where he held several positions of council. One of his proudest moments was leading a team from Hubbards to the Maritime Softball Championship. He is a past member of the N.S. Softball Association and received an outstanding service award from the Canadian Softball Association. His true passion only began to show through when he became involved in the Royal Canadian Legion. He was very proud to be elected as president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.44, Chester. In 1996 he moved to Mahone Bay and joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.49, Mahone Bay where he served as treasurer, bar chairman and led numerous other committees. His hard work was instrumental in restoring the Legion to a viable non-profit organization. That work was recognized by being presented with the Meritorious Service Medal, the highest award that can be granted to life, ordinary, associate, or affiliate voting member of the Legion. The last few weeks of Clary’s life were spent in the Intensive Care Unit at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Elmore and Allan would like to thank the nursing staff for providing such professional care to Clary and for being a great comfort to the family. A legion memorial service will be held 6:45 p.m., Monday, February 8, 2010 in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay, followed by visiting hours 7-9 p.m.. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in St. James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Ian Wissler officiating. A reception will be held in the hall of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 49, Mahone Bay. Interment will be at a later date.
