John M. Silver
1933-2011
John MacLean Silver, 78 of Mahone Bay, Lunenburg County passed away on
Tuesday, December 20th, 2011 in the South Shore Regional Hospital in
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
Born in Antigonish, NS on July 14, 1933, he was the only son of the late Frank & Florence Silver. John was a veteran and spent over 20 years of service for his county in the Canadian Armed Forces. During his military service he spent time in Germany, Cyprus, and Korea. After retiring from the military John became a bus driver for the Mackenzie Bus Line service that took him on many trips and adventures around the county for which he had many stories he shared with those around him. John was an active member in his community of Mahone Bay, NS, for those who knew him will dearly miss his smile and sense of humor. John was a brilliant musician who spent many hours with his family and friends playing his beloved guitar and banjo, his music interests included country as well as bluegrass.
John was devoted to his four children and their families, John Jr, his wife, Yvonne of Calgary, Alberta; his daughter, Juanita, her fiancé, Don Cook of Grande Prairie, Alberta; Stephen, his wife Michelle of Winnipeg, Manitoba; his youngest son, Donald of Cambridge, Ontario, and his long time friend of 30 years, Nancy Lee Mills of Mahone Bay, NS. John’s extended family includes 9 grandchildren, 2 great grand children, which he dearly loved.
Cremation has taken place. A Royal Canadian Legion service will be held on Wednesday evening, December 28th, 2011 at 6:30pm, followed by visitation, 7-9 p.m., all at Mahone Bay Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. A memorial service will be held for his family and friends to celebrate his life, 2 p.m., Thursday, December 29th, 2011 at Mahone Funeral Home, Rev. James Haughn officiating, with a reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Mahone Bay.
Family flowers only. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. No. 49, Mahone Bay or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
